The Nextbike system in Zagreb is now BAJS!

From 26.08.2025. The City of Zagreb has a new public bicycle system – Bajs. The new public bicycle system is available under the Bajs brand and includes 2000 public bicycles available at 180 official stations. For more information about the Bajs system, visit bajs.zagreb.hr

In order to ensure the peaceful integration of bicycles into existing traffic, bicycles will be introduced gradually. In the first phase, 500 bicycles will be available at 40 selected stations. The number of bikes and stations will gradually increase, which we will inform you about through the mobile application and website.

What does the introduction of the new system mean for existing users?

If you are actively using the nextbike service in the city of Zagreb, your account will automatically be transferred to the Bajs system, regardless of which system you registered your account in. All you need to do is log in to the application again when Bajs becomes officially active and accept the terms of use. You need to do this by 1.11.2025. so that you do not have to register a new Bajs account.

The application process remains the same:

        1. Open the nextbike application and select the option “Sign up”
        2. Confirm the selection of the Bajs brand or select the Zagreb as your city. If an app has automatically selected another city, choose the option to change the brand/city.
        3. Accept Terms and Conditions and confirm your choice
        4. Enter desired phone number
        5. Enter the most recent PIN number you have recieved by SMS
        6. Fill in your details – name/surname, email address and date of birth (if you already have all your details entered, this step will be skipped)
        7. Start your ride with Bajs!

I haven’t used nextbike in Zagreb for a long time, do I need to register again?

If you use nextbike services in other cities or simply have not used our service for a long time, you will need to re-register in the Bajs system in order to have an active Bajs account. Regardless of whether you have an existing account registered under the “nextbike Croatia” brand, if you are not an active user, your existing account will not be transferred and you will have to register a new Bajs account.

I have an active subscription. What will happen to my subscription?

Don’t worry, everyone who has an active subscription and regularly uses the service in Zagreb can continue to use their subscriptions for rides in Zagreb.
No action is required on your part, your subscription remains active until it expires. After your subscription expires, simply select a new Bajs subscription in the nextbike app.

I have free minutes on my account. Can I continue to use the free minutes in the Bajs system?

Free minutes, as well as subscriptions, will be transferred to the new Bajs account for users who had an active account under the “nextbike Croatia” brand and are actively using the service in Zagreb.

But there are exceptions! Minutes that were added based on marketing or partnership collaborations will not be able to be used due to the expiration of the collaboration.

MOST COMMON ADDITIONAL FEES

Hey nextbiker, pay attention to the things below so you don’t incur any additional costs!

NOT ENDING THE RIDE AT OFFICIAL STATION

The bicycle must always be returned to the official nextbike station visible in the nextbike app. Otherwise, additional costs may apply because leaving the bicycle outside the station requires collecting the bicycle and returning it to the official station and may result in additional costs for you.
In the event that you want to temporarily park the bicycle outside the official station, select the “Pause ride” option in the app, which is used to temporarily park the bicycle outside the official station. Please note that the bicycle will remain rented and that it must be returned to the official station in order to properly complete the rental.

IMPORTANT! Official active stations are always visible in the nextbike app. Always check before riding if the station you plan to return your bike to is active and available for parking. Sometimes we have to shut down stations due to various events or security reasons, which means that returning the bike to that (inactive) station may result in additional fees regardless of whether the station has nextbike signs or a nextbike terminal.

NOT LOCKING THE BIKE AT THE END OF A RIDE

For a successful and correct return of the bike, it is always necessary to lock the bike at an official nextbike station. The bike is locked by lowering the lever down on the bike lock located at the rear of the bike. Depending on the bike model, the lock is located either under the seat or under the bike’s rear light,

MULTIPLE PEOPLE RIDING ON ONE BIKE

Riding this way damages the bike and endangers the safety of the rider, other people, and all other users who will rent the bike after you. All users who want to rent multiple bikes with one account can contact our customer service, which will allow them to do so if the conditions are met (e.g. there are no existing debts on the account). You can contact customer service at the number at the foot of the website.

VANDALISM

Deliberately damaging a bicycle removes it from circulation to the detriment of all other users who need it for transportation. The bicycle then needs to be repaired and will be unavailable for new rides. If you notice any damage to the bicycle or destruction of the bicycle by another person, be sure to let us know via the nextbike mobile application, email or by calling the call center. Do not use a damaged bicycle for your own safety and to avoid possibility of additional damages to the bicycle.
